Choosing Brake Line: Poly-Armour® Steel vs. NiCopp® vs. Stainless

← All Resources

AGS makes brake line in three materials. All three do the same job. They differ in how well they resist rust, how easily they bend and flare, and what they look like.

Side-by-side

Poly-Armour® coated steel NiCopp® copper-nickel Stainless steel
Material Steel tube with a zinc undercoat and a bonded PVF (polyvinyl fluoride) coating Seamless 90-10 copper-nickel alloy 316 polished stainless tubing with 304 stainless fittings
Corrosion 30x salt-spray resistance Never rusts Highly corrosion resistant
Bending EZ-Bend® construction bends by hand without kinking Easiest to bend. No tools needed, kink-resistant Stiffest of the three. Molybdenum-infused for easier bending and flaring
Flaring Standard flaring tools Standard flaring tools Use a quality flaring tool made for stainless

Poly-Armour® coated steel

Poly-Armour has the strength and feel of OE steel line with much better corrosion protection. AGS tests show 30x salt-spray resistance, and the EZ-Bend construction lets you bend lines by hand without kinking. Why switch to Poly-Armour (C-780)

Skip the spring wrap. Spring-wrapped "armor" line doesn't add cooling or corrosion protection. Road salt and grime get trapped between the spring and the tube and can speed up corrosion.

NiCopp® copper-nickel

NiCopp is seamless 90-10 copper-nickel alloy. It doesn't rust, bends easily by hand, and flares cleanly with standard tools. It meets SAE J1650/J1677 and DIN 74234 and carries a lifetime warranty. Coils are available in 3/16" (CNC-325K) and 1/4" (CNC-425K) x 25'. NiCopp brake line replacement made easy (C-1550)

Stainless steel

AGS stainless lines use 316 polished stainless tubing and 304 stainless fittings, molybdenum-infused for easier flaring and bending. They're available as pre-flared lengths and 25' coils in 3/16", 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8". Stainless is the stiffest of the three materials, so plan your bends and use a solid flaring tool.
